4 gas-saving ‘tips’ that don’t work

hudsonautocare.com -- Advice such as buying gasoline in the cool of the morning or leaving the tailgate down has been tried — with disappointing results.

There are a lot of smart ways to save on gas. For instance, you can use a website such as GasBuddy to find cheaper gas stations in your area, buy a more fuel-efficient vehicle or drive less aggressively so your car uses less gas.

These are all proven methods for reducing how much you need to budget for gas, but there are other widely used methods that don’t pass the smell test. Here are a few:

They proved that AC on at highway speeds actually saves you gas. Yes if you are in stop and go traffic you use more gas but not necessarily because of AC.

Turn wrench for over 25 years and proper tire inflation is important. I have seen by adding 3psi to recommended tire inflation can increase your mile per gallon by as much as 2-3 mph. And no, I am not stating to inflate your tires over the recommend pressure which can be unsafe, just try a few psi over what the recommend tire pressure from the car manufacture.(Check the max pressure rating on the tire, do not exceed it) and you will see a little increase in mileage. Fuel stored underground is always about 60 degrees F give or take a couple of degrees. Think about all the gimics people waste money on to save gas.

I consistently get around 10 MPG more by turning off the A/C. Depends on your vehicle of course, but at least for me, that is a huge difference.
