U.S. National average levels off, falls slightly

GasBuddy Blog -- It's here- the national average stopped rising, at least for a few days. Dropping slightly since last night- one hundredth of a penny, we could see the pattern continue as some (not all) refining woes and pipeline issues have been figured out, and demand is set to fall in the weeks ahead.

We mentioned it Friday- that the national average would likely begin to fall in the upcoming weeks, and we do largely expect that to occur, but until mid-September, we may see prices largely stabilize or drop slightly.

Add in the switch-over back to winter gasoline in much of the country starting September 15, and hopefully gasoline prices will continue to ease.

I just got back from a Trip to San Antonio and it was high every place along the way. Gas Buddy was able to save me a few cents a gallon here and there by checking neighborhood prices.

Over the past couple of weeks, prices had slowly dropped a few pennies, typically 1 or 2 cents at a time. They jumped 10 to 14 cents overnight. I do NOT understand why, when prices are dropping, it is a penny or 2 at a time; when they are rising, it jumps 10-15 cents at a pop. Go figure.
