Shell launches project for reducing carbon emissions from Canadian oil sands

GasBuddy Blog -- Shell will build the world’s first carbon capture and storage (CCS) project for oil sands production, a more than $1 billion effort to cut Canada’s greenhouse gas emissions.

Leaders of Royal Dutch Shell and Canadian energy officials announced Wednesday that they have green-lighted the project to capture more than one ton — or 2,200 pounds — of CO2 per year. The project, called Quest, will store greenhouse gas emissions from the Athabasca oil sands in northern Alberta.

According to Simone Sebastian, a reporter for FuelFix.com, the Quest carbon capture and storage, or CCS, project is slated to begin operation in late 2015. It’s a joint venture led by Shell and partnered by Chevron and Marathon Oil, which jointly own an Athabasca...

Quantity of 1 ton per year is incorrect, actually it is 1 million tons per year per Shell's websiteShell.ca about Quest

CO2 storage is better than releasing it to the atmosphere. But can't the CO2 be used for something like increasing plant yields in a CO2 rich artificial controlled enviroment?

What a start? Capture more than one ton or 2,200 pounds/year of CO2! YEAH!
It only cost a $1 billion to do this for Canada! Not a very good return for the money spent!
This will help improve the earth's atmosphere? And global warming is a proven theory and not a natural occurring event either!
Whatever the size or shape of the vehicle, Produce and ‘Drive’ vehicles with high MPG, are very safe, reliable, has a ‘reasonable’ cost and a good ‘value’ for the money.
The price of fuel at the pump is too high!
