Shell launches project for reducing carbon emissions from Canadian oil sands

GasBuddy Blog -- Shell will build the world’s first carbon capture and storage (CCS) project for oil sands production, a more than $1 billion effort to cut Canada’s greenhouse gas emissions.

Leaders of Royal Dutch Shell and Canadian energy officials announced Wednesday that they have green-lighted the project to capture more than one ton — or 2,200 pounds — of CO2 per year. The project, called Quest, will store greenhouse gas emissions from the Athabasca oil sands in northern Alberta.

According to Simone Sebastian, a reporter for FuelFix.com, the Quest carbon capture and storage, or CCS, project is slated to begin operation in late 2015. It’s a joint venture led by Shell and partnered by Chevron and Marathon Oil, which jointly own an Athabasca...

But can't the CO2 be used for something like increasing plant yields in a CO2 rich artificial controlled enviroment?

Capture more than one ton or 2,200 pounds/year of CO2! YEAH! It only cost a $1 billion to do this for Canada! Not a very good return for the money spent! This will help improve the earth's atmosphere? And global warming is a proven theory and not a natural occurring event either! Whatever the size or shape of the vehicle, Produce and ‘Drive’ vehicles with high MPG, are very safe, reliable, has a ‘reasonable’ cost and a good ‘value’ for the money. The price of fuel at the pump is too high! 12/22/2012!
