The Canadians are poking fun at fat-Americans and their cars!

I can see it now. It's 2020. You open the door to a new Toyota Camry on the showroom floor - affectionately dubbed the Cram-me, after high fuel prices resulted in vehicle manufacturers downsizing cars in response to consumer buying patterns once gasoline climbed above $10 per gallon.
The in-car computer greets you...
... "Our new on-screen comfort system allows the driver to pre-select seat, peddle, steering wheel, and other parts of the driver experience for maximum comfort...."
It will jokingly be called the 'short, tall, or bigger' icon..., but quickly be dubbed the 'fat-button'.

There is nothing wrong with my automobile however, that damn dining room table needs some redesign work, for sure. By the time the mashed potatoes and gravy get to me there is nothing left.

If you can't fasten your seat belt it's past time to go on a weight loss program.

Most likely cause is that they are distracted stuffing food in their mouth while driving. I seen it so many times.

I'm not as worried about the obese drivers as I am about the stupid drivers...the ones who are on their cell phones, talking or texting.

Got to agree with 95vette and usndvr. These are also the people that get disabled parking permits so they can park real close and then get in a an electric scooter at the store so they don't have to walk there either. They need to do more things to take care of themselves.

Increased weight in the car means greater stopping distance and a harder crash.

Probably true.. if those would park out in the parking lot and walk it would be better for them. instead of circling the lot for 10 minutes in hopes of parking on the front row closest to the door. And I am with UNNDVR... instead of the drive thru, get out and walk inside!

yes the car-to-person fit is important but also if you are sucking down a drive through diet coke in one hand and chowing down on a double bacon cheeseburger with the other hand, that could be considered distracted driving.

I weigh 180 , but at 6 ft 4in These tiny cars are hard to fit in and cramped. Little cars for little people. If you're a fat man and cram yourself into a Geo. You're begging for trouble. Think clowns driving tiny cars. If you wanna be fat pony up for a full size vehicle and suck up the fuel cost like the grocery bill.

Man, a lot of people complain of wasted tax money - it's Canadian research into injuries in crashes, so if you're not Canadian, what is it to you. Considering how many Americans (and Canadians) are overweight, figuring out how to better keep overweight people safe in crashes would seem to be a good thing.

Suspect common sense dictates most drivers would buy a car that not only is comfortable but would also be a good fit for their body size and shape. To make every car fit everyone seems almost like enforcing a 'one size fits all' standard that can only increase the cost of the car.
